Goulash

I called Mom for advice, she said to just throw things together & keep it mild. We both haven’t made it in years.

Here is what I did:

  • 1lb Angus (85/15)
  • (2) 16oz cans – tomato sauce
  • (2) 16oz diced tomatoes (I used fire roasted and one with green peppers)
  • 16oz whole wheat macaroni

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 Hungarian peppers (from the garden!)
  • 2 jalapeƱo peppers (deseeded)
  • ½ bell pepper(old leftover)

  • 1.5T paprika (I used mostly sweet Hungarian from Savory Spice, also hot smoked Spanish. Steph we need to buy more spices!)
  • Coarse Black pepper
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Garlic Salt

I’m not good at cooking beef with onions/peppers. I did them separately so I could drain the beef). Mix everything together, add the spices, simmer ~30mins then add the noodles. Took less than an hour, makes A LOT. We’ll probably get 10 meals out of it.

What have you been cooking?

Downtown Detroit

I have lots of pictures from the Michigan weekend, I’m going to break them into a few posts.

We had a 7PM flight Monday night and Kennedy girl’s all had to go to school so Amy took us out for Slow's BBQ in downtown Detroit.

I told a coworker yesterday about how we walked around downtown, he asked why? (he is even from Michigan – Roseville!). It is really not that bad, even with some rain we had a great time.

old building by where we parked. You can actually see through it

amy had mac n cheese, cole slaw and waffle fries, Steph had a beef brisket sandwich, pulled pork for me :)

sooooo good

ahhhhhhh. I had a coffee stout from founders

walking around by the ren center

Steph was surprised Canada was so close

What country is directly below Detroit? Cuba? No, Canada!

Thanks Amy, we had a blast!

Steph is learning from me, she picked this up today.  :)

2013 GABF

My fourth year in a row for the beerfest! We went to the Saturday afternoon session, tickets are reserved for the homebrewer's association.  Jim and Joan joined us, it was the first time for both of them. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
waiting in line, "before"

bagpipes playing when you first walk in

boulder beer, they like me

hop helmet

we took some time making our necklaces; cheetos, slim jims, cheese and crackers, and a spicy summer sausage

Michigan love! All the their beers were awesome

justin, steph is copying your hoody!

avery had ridiculous beers. We had the uncle jacobs - 18% alcohol

Marcus/Becky, Deschutes also had great beer! They poured black butte (rare / $15 a bottle). Joan and I just stayed at the booth and had a few tasters haha

necklace is getting smaller...

wait, how did I get a full pour? boulder beer likes me

we took a pedicab afterwards to dinner then bussed it back to boulder. Who's coming out next year? They are opening another conference hall, going to be 30% bigger = ~800 breweries

too any tomatoes / random updates

I picked 20-25lbs last week, we're running out of room. We peeled a bunch, quartered them then froze the chunks on cookie sheets.

first snow - Friday. Mustang stayed home...

more tomatoes! I browned garlic and olive oil then coated the tomatoes before grilling

new grill! I prefer charcoal, thing is huge, you can use it as a smoker too

Steph and I went to a sour beer event yesterday during the Broncos game. Yummy yummy, they had some very rare beers. Game turned out great too
